China Southern Asset Management launches ESG-themed fund
Company evaluates companies through three main factors with ESG also a consideration
China Southern Asset Management Co. Ltd, an asset management firm based in China, recently confirmed that it will be launching its first ESG-themed fund. The China Southern ESG Theme Equity fund will be managed by Hui Zhang.
Commenting on ESG adoption and development in China, Zhang says, "ESG investing in China is rapidly rising and quickly embracing global standards. China Southern Asset Management is an industry leader in adopting a holistic approach to integrating ESG in the investment process. Traditionally, we evaluate companies through three main factors, namely industry outlook, company business and valuation, with systematic ESG consideration and adoption, it will allow fund managers effectively assessing investment risks, which ultimately will drive long-term investment returns."
On March 6 1998, the firm was officially established as one of the first domestic asset management companies approved and regulated by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).
As of June 30 2019, Southern Asset Management and its subsidiaries have combined assets under management (AUM) totalling US$147.6 billion.
