The Asset honours issuers and advisers at the Regional Awards 2018

Winning the inaugural Best Sustainable Finance Adviser award is BNP Paribas. Bank of America Merrill Lynch is Best ESG Bank. HSBC wins Best Green Adviser.

From Mongolia to Indonesia key stakeholders supporting the growth of Asia’s financial industry celebrated their achievements on the bright stage at The Asset’s annual Triple A Regional Awards dinner. Noting the success of companies in their transactions, the board of editors of The Asset was proud to honour corporates such as Agile Group Holdings and Reliance Industries as Best Issuers for their contribution to their respective markets and setting the bar when it comes to future fundraising. Bank of China was also honoured that evening as one of the Best Issuers for financial institutions in 2018.

In addition to citing key issuers in Asia, the awards dinner also celebrated the completion of key deals by companies and their advisers in 2018. One of these deals was Development Bank of Mongolia’s US$500 million senior notes, which was dubbed the Best Quasi-sovereign Bond in Asia. Thailand-based Osotspa Company was honoured as having the Best Mid-cap Equity in Asia, raising 15.1 billion baht via its IPO last year. In Indonesia senior management from PLN was at the award dinner for its US$2 billion dual-tranche notes and accelerated any-and-all tender offer, which was named Best Liability Management.

ESG-type (environmental, social and governance) financial deals were spotlighted during the evening with companies such as New World China and Korea Housing Finance Corporation (KHFC) picking up awards for their respective deals. KHFC’s deal was unique in the region being Asia’s first social covered bond.

The “Oscar-style” part of the night was another exciting and tense period of the evening with a number of creditable candidates vying for the prestigious awards. Taking the top award of the evening was Citi, which defends its title as the Best Bank in Asia. Other repeat winners from last include Bank of America Merrill Lynch, which is the Best ESG Bank in Asia and Credit Suisse being the Best Corporate and Institutional Adviser in Asia.

Winning The Asset’s inaugural Best Sustainable Finance Adviser award was BNP Paribas which was cited as helping its clients find new structures that are ESG compliant. There were also some noticeable shifts during the awards dinner with HSBC winning back the Best Loan Adviser award after several years and Standard Chartered beating out the competition to claim the Best Asian Currency Bond Adviser award.
